Plans on hold

These hopes for the future were gathered from the Squalor Survivors forum, 31st March, 2005, in answer to this question... What would you do if your house was clean?

What would you do if your house was clean?

  • Be creative:
    • I would plant and tend a beautiful garden. I love coleus, I would grow lots of those.
    • I would enjoy doing crafts—alone, and with my kids.
    • I'd like to start scrapbooking.
    • I'd take that beading class at the craft store that I keep thinking about.
    • Take pictures and lots of them. When the background is nothing but filth, garbage, and dust, it's not very inspiring. I want to start taking pictures of every holiday, every birthday, every summer, every first day of school, etc. I'll buy tons of picture frames and put them all over the house and big fat photo albums to keep the rest.
    • I would have time to decorate - really decorate.
    • Take up knitting again.
    • Write a book.
  • Be more social:
    • I would get some friends and have them over for coffee, lunch, dinner, whatever.
    • Invite the neighbors over for a summer cook-out.
    • I would have friends in to visit. I would make dinner for them, then we'd watch a DVD movie, or just sit around and talk.
    • Have friends over for a meal or cocktails.
    • have friends over more than we do now
    • I'd invite my sisters to visit from the state of WA.
    • I'd make new friends and invite them in.
    • I would do more volunteering.
    • Spend most of my time with my grandkids!
    • I may even think that I could possibly have a boyfriend...if one happened to come along.
  • Encourage our kids' social skills too:
    • I would help my son get some friends, and he could invite them over, and even have sleepovers.
    • Enroll DD and DS in swimming lessons, T-ball, soccer, whatever - something to keep them active.
  • Be more healthy:
    • Yoga/dance/workout (once there's the space to do this.)
    • I'd definitely prepare and cook healthy food all the time. And the weight would fall off.
    • Start taking care of myself. Instead of carving out a couple hours a night to declutter, use that time to take a long walk with the kids, or a power walk for exercise. Maybe even hit the Y for a night of aerobics or pilates.
    • I would open all the blinds and let the sun shine in!
  • Relax without feeling guilty:
    • Curl up on my sofa with a blanket and a cat, and read a good book.
    • Reading and sewing!
    • More reading.
  • Learn new things:
    • I would learn more about computers, and PhotoShop.
    • I would like to learn more about computers.
    • I would like to learn to play piano or keyboard
    • Learn a new language
    • Relearn fascinating things long forgotten like the Periodic Table.

As you can see, the whole list is about taking care of ourselves and our families, and growing as a person. That's why we want to free ourselves from the squalor!
